Wurlitzer Tenor Banjo
Item B-09
This is a very well made, early 30's tenor banjo with
the name Wurtlitzer on the dowel (made by the Fred Gretsch Mfg.
Co.) . The pot interior has nice maple, nickel-plated hex head
screws and brace hardware. This all original banjo has no rust,
and is in excellent playable condition. The pegs are grained ivoroid
originals with an attractive patina.
The
maple
neck has
a center lamination. The 17-fret rosewood fingerboard
has pearl
dot inlays and the peghead and heel is veneered
with
rosewood. The scale length is 19 7/8", great for playing Irish
style music. The fingerboard measurement at the bone nut is 1 1/8".
The maple
rim is spun over with a heavy nickel-plated brass with
metal rods on the top and bottom. The rim is 11" in diameter
and 2 3/8" high,
making for a nice full sound. There are 16 original brackets with
L-shaped shoes, round hooks with 1/4" nuts.
The banjo has a thick, nickel-plated brass tension
hoop. The head has recently been replaced with a new Renaissance head. The adjustable tailpiece is also new. It has a 5/8" bridge, and excellent action.
This banjo has a loud and clear sound.
Upon request, this banjo can be provided as a CELTIC TENOR BANJO at an additional charge of $20. The nut and bridge will be modified and a new set of Irish Tenor Strings (.014 .024w .032w .042w) will be installed.
The following recording was done with standard strings tuned down to AEBF# (Almost Irish Tuning).
