Slingerland Tenor Banjo
Item B-58
This is a very well made 1920's unlabeled Slingerland tenor banjo . The banjo is a high quality instrument
in
excellent playable condition. The original hardware is in very
good condition. The non-grained ivoroid tuning pegs are original
and
fully functional. The 17-fret ebony fingerboard has pearl dot inlays
and the ebony veneered peghead has a pearl star. The scale length
is 21 1/4" and the fingerboard measurement at the quite thick
3/16" bone nut is almost 1 3/16". The maple neck has
a thick ebony center lamination and the veneered heel is stamped
with
the serial number 74802 . The tone ring is a 1/4" steel hoop
inset into the rim. The birds eye maple rim is 10 3/4 inch, 9/16"
thick, and 2 3/8" high. There are 20 original brackets with
nice L-shaped shoes with hex head screws, flat hooks with 5/8"
nuts. The banjo has a 1/4" thick, grooved, nickel-plated brass
tension hoop. The banjo has a new Remo head with a slight flaw but it is still quite functional. This banjo has good action and a clear
and old-time sound. There's a new waverly tailpiece.
Upon request, this banjo can be provided as a CELTIC TENOR BANJO at an additional charge of $20. The nut and bridge will be modified and a new set of Irish Tenor Strings (.014 .024w .032w .042w) will be installed.
The sound sample is Cluck Old Hen in DGBE (Chicago Tuning).
